Book Review Here

Discovering Pure Classical Pilates looks deeply into Joseph Pilates’ traditional method of mental and physical conditioning by describing its foundations, goals, movement qualities and benefits. Specific attention is given to the ways in which market forces, individual creativity or ambition lead to deterioration and commercialization of the traditional Pilates method.

This book harkens back in time to Joseph Pilates’ own two books—Your Health (1934) and Return to Life Through Contrology (1945)—by exploring social, economic, psychological and spiritual issues associated with his traditional work. There is so much more to Discovering Pure Classical Pilates! Within this book, you will uncover the passionate and priceless treasures found only in the historically accurate technique as taught by traditionalists throughout the world.

Author Peter Fiasca - Discovering Pure Classical Pilates The author, Peter Fiasca, began the Pilates method during 1988 at Wee-Tai Hom’s studio in New York City. In 1997 he began training with master instructor Romana Kryzanowska at Drago’s Gym. He was certified by Romana in 1998 and continued weekly lessons with her through 2002. Over the years, Peter has sustained his education and training with master teachers Jay Grimes and Kathy Grant, as well as other traditional instructors..

In addition to producing and directing the award-winning Classical Pilates Technique series of six DVDs, Peter has been a guest instructor at numerous training centers throughout the U.S. as well as Europe and South America. Peter demonstrated Pilates, and was a periodic guest co-host on QVC cable television from 1997-2002. In 2001 Peter demonstrated a Pilates Mat workout taught by Romana Kryzanowska on her first commercial DVD project.

Peter earned a M.A. in developmental psychology and a M.Ed. in psychological counseling at Columbia University then completed his Ph.D. degree in psychology at The Union Institute and was licensed to practice in Pennsylvania. In New York City, Peter worked at The Post Graduate Center for Mental Health, Washington Square Institute and The Karen Horney Clinic. After relocating to Philadelphia in 1993, he worked as a staff psychologist and treatment team coordinator at Girard Medical Center’s inpatient and outpatient facilities. From 1997-2001 Peter was a staff psychologist at Abington Memorial Hospital’s Creekwood center then opened his own independent psychology practice.

During all this time the Pilates method remained in Peter’s body, heart and spirit. In December 2008, he returned to psychology as the associate director of adult outpatient services at CATCH, Inc., in Philadelphia. Yet Peter will continue to teach and study Joseph Pilates’ traditional work, devoting himself to the preservation of this extraordinary system of mental and physical conditioning.
